Bike rides
Old William - AekingerZand - Appelscha Bosberg Tower
Beautiful cycling route via junctions through the Drents-Friese Wold National Park. Via the winding experience cycle path near Oude Willem, you cycle through the Kale Duinen towards Appelscha. Tips for along the way: The Hiding Place, the Bosberg Tower in Appelscha, and the State Forestry Service Visitor Centre in Terwischa. You can easily join a junction from Wateren and Doldersum.

Beneficial Tour: Frederiksoord - Wilhelminaoord and Willemsoord
A beautiful route along the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Colonies of Benevolence. You will pass Frederiksoord, Wilhelminaoord, and Willemsoord. A unique route featuring various monuments, a tea house, stalls with products from the residents, and a distinctive landscape with straight avenues. The route starting from the cottages is an experience in itself, and would you prefer to cycle a shorter distance? The route can easily be shortened.

Loop around Kale Duinen and Fochtelooerveen
Route via cycling nodes through two special nature reserves: the sand drifts and forests of the Drentse-Friese Wold and along the Fochtelooerveen . A very varied route with good cycle paths; part of it runs along the Opsterlandes Compagnonsvaart. The Zeven Lit observation tower near node 66 is well worth a small detour. From here you have a magnificent view over the Fochtelooerveen, and who knows, you might spot a crane! You can easily join the route from the forest cottages, although that will add a few more kilometers in total.

Doldersummerveld
A walking route across one of the most beautiful heathlands in Drenthe. Wonderfully quiet and ever-changing. Climb the observation tower, spot the various large and small birds and other animals such as sheep, Scottish Highland cattle, as well as small beetles, dragonflies, and in August and September, the purple heather.

Larger loop: Knapsack Route including Zorgvlied
The Bare Dunes and Lake Canada
This route of approximately 12 kilometers goes through the sand drifts and leads past the atmospheric Canadameer. Dogs are allowed on a leash. It combines well with the paddling pool / Aekingerpad above Canadameer, where dogs are allowed off-leash.

Old Willem walking route
The yellow route on the State Forestry Service map (this map contains many more walks, worth a look). A varied, quiet route, with many narrow, winding paths in the first part. Roe deer can frequently be spotted in the fields. There is a viewing screen with seating along the way. Dogs are allowed on a leash.

Berkenheuvel Walking Route and the Hiding Place :
A beautiful, varied walk through the forest and across the Berkenheuvel estate. Along the way, you will encounter crowberry, a forest pool, damp meadows, and hedgerows. The route passes a hiding place used during World War II and a country house. You can also easily start this route from Doldersum. Dogs are allowed off-leash for part of the route.

Vledderhof Estate
From Vledder, walk across the heath to De Vledderhof. A beautiful white country house surrounded by a very varied forest and beautiful grasslands. Afterwards, enjoy a lovely drink on the terrace at De Tippe or eat pancakes at Herberg Het Wilde Hof. Dogs are allowed on a leash.
